I’m Jessie Richards, IT and Information Security Manager, security researcher, and founder of Red Underwing.
I started on the help desk and worked my way up through service desk supervisor and IT manager to leading IT and information security. In my current role, I hired and developed nearly every member of the IT team and took the organization from no formal processes to established frameworks, governance, CIS Controls, and real security visibility.
I hold the CISSP and Security+ certifications and three associate’s degrees, and I’m working toward my bachelor’s in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance at WGU.
Through Red Underwing, I do independent privacy and security research, teach online safety and ethical hacking workshops, and speak at schools, libraries, and community events. My focus is making cybersecurity accessible, especially for people who don’t yet see themselves in tech. I’m based in the Sacramento area.
